Good morning everyone,Just by chance really I stumbled upon a used sporting equipment store this past week while out for lunch. I noticed the wall of golf clubs inside so of course found my way in. Although really unorganized which added to the charm I found complete sets of Eye2 irons as well as Zing2. Both leftie, both for under $100.My question to the Ping fans being; of the two which would you be picking up? I’m still in makings of a “classic” set and have always liked Ping.

I’m not sure these two sets are exactly classics yet, hence the question! Click to expand.Depends on the markings. They made a few variants over the 10 years or so they were producing them.

If you can get the serial numbers, call Ping and they will tell you what date they were built, original set make up, shaft details, and any work Ping has done to them since original sale. There was a V groove version, the famous square groove version, the plus no plus version which is the square groove version with the redesigned plus sole, the plus version (a raised + sign in the cavity, and a drill dot version which was some modification to the original square groove version during the famous law suit. There may be more, but those are the ones I can think of off the top of my head. Both of my sets are + models. One built in 1990, the other in 1991. If you can get some serial numbers, a quick phone call or e-mail to Ping will get you the original ship date from the factory. I'd watch for two things. One, making sure all the serial numbers match across the set.

Secondly, making sure all are original shafts. Ping uses a 'white' epoxy and it is usually easy to tell if any shafts have been replaced. (It's not that a different set of shafts is bad. It's that you don't know who performed the reshafting and their skill level.)As Greg said, I'd sure go for the Eye 2's.

The Zing 2's were awesome clubs. Very forgiving, etc. They just don't have the mystical magic of the classic Eye 2's.The Eye 2's were produced from '82 through '90. There were a number of renditions. This link will give you a brief accounting of the various renditions.

Especially being a leftie set!! Finding left handed equipment has always been a struggle, ever since I first started playing. I learned quickly to scoop up anything good I’d come across.

Things are much better today, but its still just something that I do. Hence my golf corner in the basement! LOLI can’t wait to start cleaning them up. They feel really nice to swing and I’ve hit a few chip and pitches with the 9,W. So far me like!! Having 9 month old twins has really hampered my ability to get out and play this season.

It’s not a complaint, just a fact I’m faced with having small kids now. Of the few rounds I’ve been able to get away and play, these Eye2’s seem to be getting the majority of game time!! They’ve really grown on me, I haven’t done much to them either, other than a good wash.My best round of the year was played yesterday with the Eye2 irons in my bag. Well most of them anyway. The 5,8,9,W came along and all played a part in my round with the dad-in-law. I was -2 on the 7th tee, had two deserving bogies coming home to finish E.

That I’m very pleased with. Having 9 month old twins has really hampered my ability to get out and play this season. It’s not a complaint, just a fact I’m faced with having small kids now. Lie angle is a degree upright2.???3.All PING clubs have serial numbers that you can register on their website and see the specs.4.

75-150 depending on the condition. Only the BeCu sets command top dollar. That one listing may be mislabeled but the rest are fine. What did you pay for them? In the 3-4 months the highest selling set I've seen was a BeCu set 2-P that went for 202.50 but have also seen under 150.$100 for the complete set, I had just spoke to a rob griffin at ping.

He had given me some information on the irons. He said 8 of the 9 clubs that don't have a serial number could possibly have been owned by a pro, because they don't come out of the shop without having a serial number. However the 6 iron does have a serial number of 868247 meaning the owner could have lost a 6 iron and bought another off ebay and such but the serial specs said the iron was orange dot, c3 swing height, and cut 3/4 shorter so it is alost the same size as the 7 iron, however it's showing blue dot. Nice customer service by the way for Ping. Holy crap, I came across this article about Billy Mayfair's DQ on the Champions Tour:Billy Mayfair's bizarre DQ: Inside one of the year's oddest rules fiascosBilly Mayfair‘s 2nd round at the Invesco QQQ Championship was ordinary for 10 holes. Then he broke two rules. Here's what happened next.Highlights:He arguably lied to the rules official about what caused his ball to move.He has retained a lawyer to address this (!).The PGA Tour seems to be sandbagging the media here to prevent the video of this getting out.Yikes.
